Aventurine is a form of Quartz that is characterized by its translucent and mineral inclusions that give it a shimmering or glistening effect called "aventurescence".  The most common color is green but it may also be orange, brown, yellow, blue or grey.

Clear Quartz

Sodalite is a rich royal Blue mineral enjoyed as an ornamental stone.  Although massive samples are opaque, Crystals are usually transparent to translucent.  It is very similar to Lapis but with out the Pyrite Crystals and distinguishable color differences.  It makes great jewelry, cabochons an beads.

Carnelian is a red or reddish-brown variant of Chalcedony but also may come in the colors of orange or pink.  It is quite common and usually found in translucent pebble form.  It is found in several areas of Europe, Iceland and Madagascar.

Goldstone is a type of man-made glass with Copper or Copper salts made by a reducing flame.  The most common form of Goldstone give the illusion of being a reddish-brown, although in fact the color comes from the Copper crystals and the glass itself is colorless.  Other variants have an intensely color matrix usually blue or violet, and more rare, green.

Jasper is an opaque, impure variety of Quartz that is usually red, yellow or brown in color.  Jasper can appear as an opaque rock with shades of red due to mineral impurities.  Patterns can arise from the formation process and flow patterns in the sediment or volcanic ash that was saturated with silica which formed the banding or swirling designs in the rock.

Garnet is included in a group of minerals that have been used since the Bronze Age as gemstones and abrasives.  Garnets are most often as seen in red, but are available in a wide variety of colors spanning the entire color spectrum except blue.  There are six common species of Garnet that are recognized by their chemical composition:  Pyrope, Almandine, Spessartite, Grossular, which includes Hessonite and Tsavorite, Uvarovite and Andradite.

Fluorite, also known as fluor-spar, is a mineral composed of Calcium Fluoride.  It is a widely occurring mineral and is often found with metallic minerals such as Galena and Sphalerite, but also with Barite, Quartz and Calcite.  It may fluoresce strongly in ultraviolet light.  Although blue is the most common color, it can also be red, purple, green, yellow and white.

Tiger-Eye is a gemstone that is usually yellow to red-brown in color with a silky luster.  This gemstone has an optical reflectance effect that arises from the fibrous structure of the material.  The physical and optical properties are identical or very near to those of a single Quartz Crystal.

Jade, or Jadeite, is a Silicate mineral made from a Sodium and Aluminum mix that is usually found in igneous and/or metamorphic rocks.  Jade is as hard as Quartz, is exceptionally tough, beautifully colored and can be delicately shaped or carved.

British Columbian Jade

Kyanite is a typically blue Silicate mineral that is commonly found in Aluminum rich metamorphic pegmatites and/or sedimentary rock.  It is used primarily in refractory and ceramic products including porcelain plumbing fixtures and dinnerware.  It is also used in electrical insulators and abrasives.  It is definitely a collector's mineral.

Freshwater Pearl and Kyanite

Hematite is a mineral form of Iron oxide.  It is a very common material that has a black to steel to silver-grey color and may also appear reddish brown.  Hematite is a heavy metal and when it is polished it is consider to many to be of gemstone quality.  It is very popular in jewelry and Native American art.
