Howlite is a soft and sometimes brittle gemstone.  It is usually white or colorless.  It can be translucent in thin fragments.  It is associated with Colemanite, Ulexite, and Bakerite and is found in Borate deposits.  It is usually dyed to simulate real "Turquoise" in jewelry.

Quartz is the second most common mineral in the Earth's continental crust.  It is mainly composed of Silica or Silica based minerals.  It comes in many forms including Chalcedony, Amethyst, Citrine, Carnelian and the very beautiful Rose Quartz as shown in the picture.

Jasper is an opaque, impure variety of Quartz that is usually red, yellow or brown in color.  Jasper can appear as an opaque rock with shades of red due to mineral impurities.  Patterns can arise from the formation process and flow patterns in the sediment or volcanic ash that was saturated with silica which formed the banding or swirling designs in the rock.

Amethyst is a purple variety of Quartz often used as an ornament.  Upon exposure to heat, Amethyst generally becomes yellow, which some refer to as Citrine or "burnt" Amethyst.  It occurs in color from a light, slightly pinkish violet to a deep grape purple.  It is widely distributed as a mineral, but fine, clear specimens that are suitable for cutting as ornamental stones.

Obsidian is a type of naturally-occurring glass formed as an extrusive igneous rock. Because of the lack of Crystal structure, Obsidian blade edges can reach almost molecular thinness, leading to its ancient use of projectile points (arrow heads), and its modern use as surgical scalpel blades

Carnelian is a red or reddish-brown variant of Chalcedony but also may come in the colors of orange and pink.  It is quite common and usually found in translucent pebble form.  It is found in several areas of Europe, Iceland and Madagascar.

Sodalite is a rich royal Blue mineral enjoyed as an ornamental stone. Although massive samples are opaque, Crystals are usually transparent to translucent. It is very similar to Lapis but with out the Pyrite Crystals and distinguishable color differences. It makes great jewelry, cabochons an beads.
