Obsidian is a rock which is a type of naturally occurring glass that is produced by volcanoes when felsic lava cools rapidly and freezes without sufficient time for Crystal growth.  It is an extrusive igneous rock.  Because Obsidian lacks Crystal structure, the blade edges can reach almost molecular thinness, leading to the ancient use of arrow heads and the modern use of surgical scalpel blades.

Agates mostly occur as nodules in volcanic rocks or waters containing Silica in solution which is possibly derived from the decomposition of Silicates in the lava.  The Siliceous matter is deposited in regular layers resulting in the banded or striped formation.  It is very unlikely that you would ever find an exact duplicate of any type of Agate, Fairburn or other.

Jasper, or spotted stone, is an opaque, impure variety of Quartz that is usually red, yellow or brown in color.  Picture Jaspers simultaneously exhibit several variants such as banding, flow patterns, dendrites or color variations.  This results in what appears to be scenes or images in a cut section of the Jasper.

C117b   This is a nice carving of a Tyrannosaurs Rex made from Gold Tiger Eye.  It measures 1" x 2"and has a nice polish.  This an unique carving with an interesting design on both sides.  It would make a great gift.

Tiger-Eye is a gemstone that is usually yellow to red-brown in color with a silky luster.  This gemstone has an optical reflectance effect that arises from the fibrous structure of the material.  The physical and optical properties are identical or very near to those of a single Quartz Crystal.

C119b  This is a beautiful Owl carved from Malachite. This carving measures 1/2" in length by 1" in height and has a good finish. This is a very unique carving and is different from our other carvings.

Malachite is a Copper Carbonate mineral that often forms botryoidal, fibrous or stalagmitic masses.  It is often the result of the weathering of Copper Ores and is commonly found with Azurite, Goethite and Calcite.  It is typically associated with Copper deposits including Limestone which is the source of the Carbonate.  Malachite is found in many regions world wide and is usually shaded green in color.

C108b  This is a nice gemstone carving of a cat made from Rose Quartz.  It measures 1 1/2" x 1" and has a nice polish.  He is very cute and would make a great pocket piece.

C107b   This is a nice carving of a Dolphin made from Dalmatian Stone.  It measures nearly 2 1/2" x 1"and has a nice polish. It would make a great gift.

Dalmatian Stone, or orbicular Rhyolite, is an igneous rock that was formed by lava flows on the Earth's surface. The spots or "orbs" probably occurred when molten lava reacted with fragments of rock known as Xenoliths. These stones are light to dark tan in color with black spots throughout. The nickname "Dalmatian" was given to this unusual looking mineral because of its resemblance to a Dalmatian dog's spots.

C114b   Here is a neat set of 4 mini gemstone Dinosaur carvings.  Each set has a Stegosaurus, a Tyrannosaurus Rex, a Triceratops and a Brontosaurus. They are carved from Sodalite, Green Aventurine, Fancy Red Jasper, Blue Gold Stone, Opalite, Quartz Crystal, Hematite, Rose Quartz, Gold Tiger-Eye or Brown Gold Stone.  Each carving measures approximately 3/4" to 1" depending on the type of carving.  These little guys are super cute and very detailed.
