$14.50 C210c  This is a nice carved Cow made from Dalmatian stone.  It measures 2" x 1 1/4" and has a nice polish.  He is a different carving to add to your collection.

Dalmatian Stone, or orbicular Rhyolite, is an igneous rock that was formed by lava flows on the Earth's surface.  The spots or "orbs" probably occurred when molten lava reacted with fragments of rock known as Xenoliths.  These stones are light to dark tan in color with black spots throughout.  The nickname "Dalmatian" was given to this unusual looking mineral because of its resemblance to a Dalmatian dog's spots.

$42.00 C200c  Here is a very special, real unique carving.  This is a hand carved South Dakota Alabaster Bear made by the Sioux Native Americans in South Dakota.  He measures 3" long, 1 3/4" high and 1 1/8" wide.  He has a very lovely Peach and Cream color and has a carved arrowhead on the top of his back. 

Alabaster, also known as satin spar, is a name applied to the varieties of two distinct minerals: Gypsum and Calcite.  Most Alabaster of the present day, consists of Calcite or a carbonate of Calcium.  It sometimes found in Limestone caverns or Calcite mines.

C203b  Here is a very cute, smaller Red Jasper Frog on a Green Aventurine Lily Pad.  This little guy measures 1 1/4" x 1 1/4" and his perch measures 2" x 2".  A great addition to any carving or frog collection.

Hematite is a mineral form of Iron oxide.  It is a very common material that has a black to steel to silver-grey color and may also appear reddish brown.  Hematite is a heavy metal and when it is polished it is consider to many to be of gemstone quality.  It is very popular in jewelry and Native American art.

Howlite is a soft and sometimes brittle gemstone.  It is usually white or colorless.  It can be translucent in thin fragments.  It is associated with Colemanite, Ulexite, and Bakerite and is found in Borate deposits.  It is usually dyed to simulate real "Turquoise" in jewelry.

Unakite is an altered Granite composed of pink Feldspar, green Epidote and clear Quartz.  It exists in various shades of green and pink and is usually mottled in appearance.  Good quality Unakite is considered a semiprecious stone and will take a good polish and is often used in jewelry and other lapidary work such as eggs, spheres and carvings.

C206b   This is a nice carved Frog made from Mahogany Obsidian.  It measures 2" in length by 1 1/2" in width. He is has a pretty Brown and Black mix of colors and a neat design.  Take him home quick before he hops away.

Obsidian is a rock which is a type of naturally occurring glass that is produced by volcanoes when felsic lava cools rapidly and freezes without sufficient time for Crystal growth.  It is an extrusive igneous rock.  Because Obsidian lacks Crystal structure, the blade edges can reach almost molecular thinness, leading to the ancient use of arrow heads and the modern use of surgical scalpel blades.
