This is a pretty glass Phosphorescence
egg. It
is a pale green color in normal light and shows a brighter green in the
dark. Phosphorescence material glows in the dark without using
ultraviolet light. Typically, the glowing slowly fades out within minutes
or up to a few hours. This very cool egg measures
approximately 1 3/4" tall x
nearly 1 3/8" in diameter and has an unpolished exterior texture much like a
real egg. Something different and
interesting.

Jasper, or spotted stone, is an opaque, impure variety of Quartz that
is usually red, yellow or brown in color. Some Jaspers simultaneously
exhibit several variants such as banding, flow patterns, dendrites or
color variations. This results in what appears to be scenes or images in
a cut section of the Jasper.

is usually made of glass or resin. Man-made or not, it is definitely a
beautiful "gem stone" and one of my personal favorites.

Tiger-eye is a member of the quartz family, a cryptocrystalline
variety. It is one of the chatoyant varieties of gemstones. Due to the
fibrous structure of the gemstone, as light reflects within the thin
parallel fibrous bands it exhibits a changeable silky luster or
chatoyancy. It occurs naturally in colors of gold and blue. |

Agates mostly occur as nodules in volcanic rocks or waters
containing Silica in solution which is possibly derived from the
decomposition of Silicates in the lava. The Siliceous matter is deposited
in regular layers resulting in the banded or striped formation. It is very
unlikely that you would ever find an exact duplicate of any type of Agate,
Brazilian or other.

Petrified Wood is a type of a fossil as it consists of fossil wood where
all the organic materials have been replaced with minerals while retaining
the original structure of the wood. These minerals are most often Silicates
such as Quartz. Other minerals, Manganese, Iron and Copper, in the water
or mud during the petrification process gives Petrified Wood a variety of
color ranges: black - Carbon; green/blue - Copper; red/brown/yellow - Iron.
Petrified Wood can preserve the original structure of the wood in all its
detail all the way down to the microscopic level. Structures such as
tree rings and the various tissues are often observed features. Although
Petrified Wood can be found worldwide, it is rather rare in larger quantities
and at times can be difficult to obtain by the average collector.

Girasol Opal also known as Girasol Quartz is
part of the Quartz family. Girasol Opal is actually a Milky Clear Quartz.
Quartz is the second most common mineral in the Earth's continental crust.
It is mainly composed of Silica or Silica based minerals. Although Quartz
is known by a variety of names, the most important distinction between
types of Quartz is that of macro-crystalline, individual crystals visible
to the unaided eye, and micro-crystalline, where aggregates of crystals
are only visible under high magnification. There are many forms of Quartz
including Chalcedony, Amethyst, Citrine, and Carnelian which are results
of mineral impurities or heat treatments.

Amazonite is a green variety of Feldspar. The name is taken from
that of the Amazon River, from which certain green stones were formerly
obtained, but it is doubtful whether green Feldspar occurs in the Amazon
area. It is a mineral of limited occurrence but is often associated with
smoky Quartz, Orthoclase and Albite in a coarse Granite or Pegmatite.
Because of its bright green color when polished, Amazonite is sometimes
cut and used as a gemstone, although it is easily fractured.

Lapis is a rock and not a mineral because it is made up from various
other minerals. To be a mineral it would have one constituent only, and
Lapis has several including Lazurite, Sodium, Aluminum, Silicon, Oxygen,
Sulfur and Chlorine. Most Lapis contains Calcite, Sodalite and Pyrite. The
best color is an intense blue that is lightly dusted with small flecks of
Pyrite. Lapis takes an excellent polish and has been made into jewelry,
carvings, boxes, mosaics and ornamental objects. |
