EGG800b  This is a pretty polished Gold Pyrite egg.  This egg has shiny appearance.  It measures nearly 1 3/4" x 1 3/8"and has been hand polished.  Something different for the egg collection. This material is from Peru.

Pyrite, or Iron Pyrite, is an Iron sulfide with isometric Crystals that usually appear as cubes.  It is brittle and can break or powder easily.  Its metallic luster and brass yellow hue have earned it the nickname of "fool's gold" due to many miners mistaken it for the real thing.  Ironically, small quantities of actual gold are sometimes found in Pyrite.  It is the most common of the sulfide minerals and is usually found with other sulfides or oxides in Quartz veins, sedimentary or metamorphic rocks.

EGG809b    Here is a very nice Petrified Wood egg.  It measures 2 1/4" x 1 3/4" with a nice polish.  This egg has a good color combination and a nice design.   It would make a great addition to your collection.  This type of material is known for the occasional internal fractures and flat areas which are common to Petrified Wood.

Petrified Wood is a type of a fossil as it consists of fossil wood where all the organic materials have been replaced with minerals while retaining the original structure of the wood.  These minerals are most often Silicates such as Quartz.  Other minerals, Manganese, Iron and Copper, in the water or mud during the petrification process give Petrified Wood a variety of color ranges: black - Carbon; green/blue - Copper; red/brown/yellow - Iron.  Petrified Wood can preserve the original structure of the wood in all its detail all the way down to the microscopic level.  Structures such as tree rings and the various tissues are often observed features.

EGG803c  This is a pretty Rose Quartz egg from Madagascar measuring 2 1/4" x 1 7/8" and has a nice polish.  This egg has a beautiful Pink color with sparkly iridescence.  A true beauty.

Rose Quartz is a type of Quartz which exhibits a pale pink to a rose red hue.  The color is usually due to its trace amounts of Titanium, Iron or Manganese.  Sometimes it will contain microscopic Rutile needles which produce an asterism in transmitted light.  It is rarely found in Crystal form.  It is not very popular as a faceted gem because the stones are always cloudy, the pink color is often too pale and most Rose Quartz gems have large flaws.

Calcite is a Carbonate mineral that is one of the most widely distributed minerals in the Earth's crust.  It is a common constituent of sedimentary rocks with Limestone, in particular.  Calcite is transparent to opaque and may occasionally show phosphorescence or fluorescence.  It comes in many color including white or colorless, grey, red, yellow, green, orange, blue, purple and brown.

EGG802c   This is a very nice and very pretty Pakistani Onyx egg.  The egg measures 2 3/4" x 2" and has a good polish.  It has a super Green, Beige and Mahogany Brown color mix.  A great starter egg.

Onyx is a banded variety of Chalcedony which in turn is a form of Quartz.  The colors of its bands range from white to almost every color except shades of purple, blue and black.  It is used for vases, bowls, beads, cabochons and other items.  The name has sometimes been used incorrectly to label other banded lapidary materials, such as banded Calcite.  This type is found in Mexico and Pakistan and is often carved, polished and sold.  The material is much softer than true Onyx and much more readily available.

EGG805b  This is a very nice Grey and White Marble egg.  It measures 2 5/8" x 2" and has a nice polish.  The egg has a unique design and color blend.  A super starter egg for the new collector.

Marble is a metamorphic rock consisting of Limestone but mostly composed of Calcite.  It is used extensively for sculpture, building material and has many decorative uses.  The pure white Marble is probably the most common form known, but the characteristic swirls and veins of many colored Marble varieties are usually due to various mineral impurities such as Clay, Silt, Sand, Iron Oxides or Chert.
