This beautiful Amethyst Cathedral is fascinating. Measuring by 42" by 12" (at its widest) and 42"by 6 1/2" (at its smallest.) Weighing approximately100 pounds it is a good sized Amethyst Cathedral. At the bottom of the cathedral there are also calcite crystals intermixed with the amethyst, as seen in the middle picture. The Amethyst Cathedral has a good deep purple color throughout. Amethyst is a purple variety of Quartz often used as an ornament. Upon exposure to heat, Amethyst generally becomes yellow, which some refer to as Citrine or "burnt" Amethyst. It occurs in color from a light, slightly pinkish violet to a deep grape purple. It is widely distributed as a mineral, but fine, clear specimens that are suitable for cutting as ornamental stones.
