FO814b Here is a very interesting, very
unique find!! This is a Calamites Cisti from the Middle Pennsylvanian
Allegheny Formation which was located in Nicholas County, West Virginia.
This fossil measures 4 3/4" x 4 1/4' x 7/8" and has several Calamites fossils
in the Grey Slate matrix.
Calamites are a genus of the extinct arborescent (tree-like) horsetails
which are closely related to modern horsetails or scouring rushes. This
is a type of vascular plant that reproduces by spores rather than seeds.
These plants were medium-sized trees, growing to heights of 100 feet or more.
They were persistent, minor components of coal swamps during the Carboniferous
period.

This is an Orthoceras Fossil plaque with several nice polished specimens.
It is approximately 11" x 9 1/2" x 1 1/2". This fossilized plaque has
a minimum of 9 large, very detailed squid-like creatures surrounded by several,
smaller fossils. A great gift or educational tool.
Orthoceras was a marine cephalopod, this particular species was straight
shelled and they thrived some 400+ million years ago in the Paleozoic era.
These fossil sculptures have been carved and chipped to expose the fossils
and polished to highlight the fossils. These fossils are from Morocco. They
make great decorator pieces as well as collectible for the fossil collection.

over 6 lbs. This fossil group has a minimum of 9 very define fossils
in a bed of many smaller fossils in matrix. A great gift or educational
too. Orthoceras was a marine cephalopod, this particular species
was straight shelled and they thrived some 400+ million years ago in the Paleozoic
era. These fossil plaques have been carved and chipped to expose the

FO822c This
is a large end cut of Petrified Wood from the beautiful Black Hills of South
Dakota. It measures 8" x 6 1/2" x 3 3/4" and is polished on the front
face. This beautiful specimen has a deep shaded Brown color with Gold,
Gray and Black accents. It would make a great centerpiece. This
material is unique in that it is very unpredictable; some may have interesting
cavities, internal and/or external fractures and natural knots. A perfect
work of nature. Petrified Wood is a type of a fossil as it consists
of fossil wood where all the organic materials have been replaced with minerals
while retaining the original structure of the wood. These minerals are
most often Silicates such as Quartz. Other minerals, Manganese, Iron
and Copper, in the water or mud during the petrification process give Petrified
Wood a variety of color ranges: black - Carbon; green/blue - Copper; red/brown/yellow
- Iron. Petrified Wood can preserve the original structure of the wood
in all its detail all the way down to the microscopic level. Structures
such as tree rings and the various tissues are often observed features.
Although Petrified Wood can be found worldwide, it is rather rare in larger
quantities and at times can be difficult to obtain by the average collector.
