GAL700B  BRAZILIAN AGATE AMETHYST GEODE  SPHERE

This is an  amazingly gorgeous Brazilian Agate Amethyst sphere. It has soft pastel colors of Blue, White and Grey  on the outside that displays fabulous banding with an incredible open cavity that reveals the lovely Amethyst crystal within. The cavity goes clear through to the other side and when put in the right light or a back lighting gives the center of the cavity an amazing glow. This unique Sphere has a good polish and measures 5 1/2" in diameter and weighs nearly 6 pounds and includes a plastic stand.  Just absolutely beautiful!

Agates mostly occur as nodules in volcanic rocks or waters containing silica in solution possibly derived from the decomposition of silicates in the lava.  The siliceous matter is deposited in regular layers resulting in the banded or striped formation.

Amethyst is a purple variety of Quartz often used as an ornament. It occurs in color from a light, slightly pinkish violet to a deep grape purple. Upon exposure to heat, Amethyst generally becomes yellow, which some refer to as Citrine or "burnt" Amethyst. It is widely distributed as a mineral, but fine, clear specimens that are suitable for cutting as ornamental stones.

Pyrite, or Iron Pyrite, is an Iron sulfide with isometric Crystals that usually appear as cubes.  It is brittle and can break or powder easily.  Its metallic luster and brass yellow hue have earned it the nickname of "fool's gold" due to many miners mistaken it for the real thing.  Ironically, small quantities of actual gold are sometimes found in Pyrite.  It is the most common of the sulfide minerals and is usually found with other sulfides or oxides in Quartz veins, sedimentary or metamorphic rocks.

Jasper, or spotted stone, is an opaque, impure variety of Quartz that is usually red, yellow or brown in color.  Some Jaspers simultaneously exhibit several variants such as banding, flow patterns, dendrites or color variations.  This results in what appears to be scenes or images in a cut section of the Jasper.

GAL703c  CRYSTAL GLASS BALL SPHERE

Here is a nice large Crystal Ball made from Glass. It is completely clear, transparent and no bubbles. In the last picture we've put a cool Agate poster to demonstrate it's transparency.  The Ball measures over  7 3/4" in diameter, weighs over 22 pounds and has a nice polish. The wood stand comes with it and measures 5 1/2" in diameter and 2 1/2" tall. There are two available of this sphere. Although we cannot tell you the future with this Crystal Ball we can assure you it's mystical and something very different and out of the ordinary that will amaze all who see it!.

Glass is a hard brittle substance, typically transparent or translucent, made by fusing sand with soda, lime and sometimes other ingredients and cooling rapidly. Libyan desert glass or great sand sea glass is a substance found in areas in the Libyan Desert. Fragments of desert glass can be found over large areas, up to tens of kilometers. The Libyan desert glass has been dated as having formed about 26 million years ago. It was knapped and used to make tools during the Pleistocene. Today's glass is used to make windows, drinking containers and many other articles.

Quartz is the second most common mineral in the Earth's continental crust.  It is mainly composed of Silica or Silica based minerals.  Although Quartz is known by a variety of names, the most important distinction between types of Quartz is that of macro-crystalline, individual crystals visible to the unaided eye, and micro-crystalline, where aggregates of crystals are only visible under high magnification.  There are many forms of Quartz including Chalcedony, Amethyst, Citrine, and Carnelian which are results of mineral impurities or heat treatments.

GAL706b  PETRIFIED WOOD SPHERE

This is an interesting, very cool Petrified Wood sphere.  It measures nearly 6" in diameter, weighs almost 10 3/4 pounds and has a nice polish.  The sphere has beautiful rich Dark Red colors with Tan, Purple, Black and Brown accents as well. There are several small natural crystal cavities that only add to the exceptional character of this stunning sphere. Very beautiful!

Petrified Wood is a type of a fossil as it consists of fossil wood where all the organic materials have been replaced with minerals while retaining the original structure of the wood.  These minerals are most often Silicates such as Quartz.  Other minerals, Manganese, Iron and Copper, in the water or mud during the petrification process gives Petrified Wood a variety of color ranges: black - Carbon; green/blue - Copper; red/brown/yellow - Iron.  Petrified Wood can preserve the original structure of the wood in all its detail all the way down to the microscopic level.  Structures such as tree rings and the various tissues are often observed features.  Although Petrified Wood can be found worldwide, it is rather rare in larger quantities and at times can be difficult to obtain by the average collector.

GAL707C  RHODENITE SPHERE

This is a very beautiful Rhodenite Sphere from Peru. It has nice Pink colors of Rhodenite with the contrasting Black Manganese minerals dispersed throughout. This larger sphere is 4 5/8" in diameter and weighs over 6 1/2 pounds.  A very gorgeous sphere at any price.  Add it to your collection today!

Rhodenite is a Manganese Silicate material that is commonly a rose-red color.  Rough unpolished specimens have a tendency to turn brown due to surface oxidation.  It is often worked as an ornamental stone as true Crystals are rare to find.

GAL708c  SHELL MARBLE SPHERE

Here's another great large sphere. The Shell Marble sphere has many very interesting and unique fossils in a great color scheme. This large sphere weighs over 20 1/2 pounds and measures approximately 7 1/2" in diameter. The Shell Marble Sphere is a great addition to any collection.

Marble is a metamorphic rock consisting of Limestone but composed mostly of Calcite.  It is used extensively for sculpture, building materials and has many decorative uses.  The pure white Marble is probably the most common form known, but the characteristic swirls and veins of many colored Marble varieties are usually due to various mineral impurities such as Clay, Silt, Sand, Iron Oxides or Chert.

GAL709c  MAHOGANY OBSIDIAN

Here is a nice, very large Mahogany Obsidian sphere from Mexico.  It measures approximately 6 1/8" in diameter, weighs over 10  pounds and has a nice polish. The sphere has deep red to almost brown color and is darker than in the picture with a neat black spotted design.  A very cool sphere that does come around that often!

sphere   sphere   sphere   sphere

Obsidian is a type of naturally-occurring glass formed as an extrusive igneous rock.  It is produced when felsic lava erupted from a volcano, cools rapidly through the glass transition temperature and freezes without sufficient time for Crystal growth.  Because of the lack of Crystal structure, Obsidian blade edges can reach almost molecular thinness, leading to its ancient use of projectile points (arrow heads), and its modern use as surgical scalpel blades.

GAL711B  ROSE QUARTZ SPHERE

This is an exceptional Rose Quartz sphere from Madagascar.  It measures 5 1/8" in diameter, weighs nearly 6 1/2 pounds and has a nice polish. It has a gorgeous deep Rose color, great clarity, fantastic inclusions, some brilliant "rainbow" reflections and a phenomenal 6 pointed "star". This "star" is absolutely stunning and the picture below does not do it justice. The "star" actually has a 3-D effect as it jumps off the sphere when it's set in the right positions in bright sunlight. A sphere like this does not come around that often, grab it quick!

Rose Quartz is a member of the Quartz family that exhibits a pale Pink to Rose Red hue. The color is usually due to the trace amounts of Titanium, Iron or Manganese in the mass material. Some Rose Quartz contains microscopic Rutile needles which produce an asterism in transmitted light. An all time favorite at the Rock Shop.
